Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District

Rain Gauge

The Rusk County Groundwater Conservation District will be monitoring rainfall from locations in Rusk County.
Rain has a major effect on the demand that we have on the aquifers under Rusk County. Limited rainfall causes us to increase our use of water from the aquifer, which lowers the water level in the aquifer. When we receive rainfall, we use less water and reduce our demand on the aquifer allowing it to recharge from outside the County and bring the levels back up. By tracking the rainfall, we believe that we can predict when we need to be more conservation minded with our use of groundwater.
As we all know, the amount of rain that we experience at our location is not the same as what is experienced in other parts of the County. For this reason, the RCGCD will be monitoring rainfall at 8 locations throughout the County. We will report the rainfall by location monthly for each day of the month.
We started gathering data from 5 locations.  We added 3 more locations in December 2006.  Data will be posted the first week of each month for the previous month.
